Wilbert or also known as Wilibert died in 889 AD and was born at an unknown time. He was the Archbishop of Cologne from 870 until his death in 889.

Early life[]

Wilbert became a priest in the Cathedral of Cologne.

Archbishop of Cologne[]

In 870 Wilbert was appointed the Archbishop of Cologne. Wilbert received from the Carolingians an extension to the Cathedral in Cologne for the use of synods. Pope Adrian II rewarded the contested pallium to Wilbert in 875. The Vikings destroyed Cologne 881 - 882. Wilbert held the first provincial synod in the Archbishopric of Cologne in 887. Wilbert died in 889 and was the first archbishop to be buried in the Cologne Cathedral.
