Sudan is a country located directly below Egypt in north-central Africa. Sudan has a population of around 45.7 million people spread out over the area of 1,886,068 km2. The majority of this population are Muslims and speak Arabic. Sudan's capital, Khartoum, has a population of around 5.2 million is located on the Nile River. Sudan is currently ruled under a military dictatorship following coups and protests in 2021. In 2011 South Sudan, the world's newest nation, broke away from Sudan.
