The Ptolemaic Kingdom was a Hellenistic kingdom founded in Egypt by Ptolemy I Soter and was ruled by the Ptolemaic dynasty which started with his accession after the death of Alexander the Great in 323 BC. The Kingdom finally ended in 30 BC when Cleopatra VII died with the Roman conquest of Egypt.

The Ptolemaic Kingdom was first seen in 305 BC and was founded by Ptolemy I Soter and he declared himself Pharaoh of Egypt which his dynasty ruled an area stretching from southern Syria to Cyrene and all the way south towards Nubia. The capital of this kingdom was known as Alexandria which was a major center of Greek culture and trade. The Ptolemaic dynasty named themselves successors of the Pharaohs to gain recognition from the Egyptian population. The Ptolemaic dynasty took on Egyptian traditions and married their siblings, they portrayed themselves in Egyptian traditional clothing in statues and religious life of Egypt was with the dynasty too. There were also native rebellions as well as foreign and civil wars which destroyed the kingdom in it's end with the Roman Empire annexing the kingdom. Hellenistic culture had a big impact on Egypt and continued to thrive despite the destruction of the Kingdom and it continued until the Muslim conquest of Egypt.
