The History of Ancient Egypt
Old Kingdom : 3rd through 6th dynasties
It was during the time of the 4th dynasty that the art of embalming was developed, leading eventually to the process of mummification. With the death of the last Pharoah of the 6th dynasty, the Old Kingdom collapsed and Egypt fell into a period of disunion.
