Mandatory Palestine was the name for the League of Nations mandate for Palestine administered by the United Kingdom, which had been a part of the defunct Ottoman Empire, and been in control of the Middle East since the 16th century. Palestine was not apart of the British Empire, instead it under the supervision of the League of Nations and intended to be fully independent.
