Louis VI (German: Ludwig VI.) (4 July 1539 - 22 October 1583) was the Elector Palatine from 1576 until 1583.

LifeEdit

Louis was born in Simmern in 1539 to Frederick III, Elector Palatine. Louis was secretly raised by his mother Maria of Brandenburg-Kulmbach as a Lutheran against the wishes of his Calvinist father. He succeeded his father as Elector Palatine in 1576. Although Frederick in his will stated that the Palatine was to remain Calvinist, he converted the country to Lutheranism. In this capacity he purged the University of Heidelberg, whose members went to his brother John Casimir's court at Kaiserslautern.

Louis died in Heidelberg in 1583 and was buried in the Church of the Holy Spirit.

Frederick married Elizabeth of Hesse (13 February 1539 - 14 March 1582) in 1560 and had the following children:

Frederick married Anne of East Frisia (26 June 1562 - 21 April 1621) in 1583. They had no children.
