Karen Ann Martin (December 18, 1960 - September 11, 2001) was an American flight attendant purser killed on board American Airlines Flight 11 during the September 11 Attacks. She and Barbara Arestegui were stabbed by one of the hijackers, and were the first people murdered during the course of the attacks.
Early life and career[edit | edit source]
Martin was born in Danvers, Massachusetts and became a flight attendant for American Airlines in 1989. Though, she never married or had children of her own, she was "Auntie Karen" to all her friends' children.
Flight 11[edit | edit source]
On September 11, 2001, Martin was the head flight attendant on American Airlines Flight 11 and worked in the first class cabin.
Death[edit | edit source]
Martin and Arestegui were reportedly stabbed by the al-Shehri brothers aboard American Airlines Flight 11 as it was hijacked during the September 11 Attacks.
