The First Chechen war was the a war for the Chechen struggle for independence. The war was between the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria and the Russian Federation. The war would last from 1994 to 1996 before a peace treaty was signed which allowed the Chechen republic to remain de facto independent until the Second Chechen war.
